Welcome to IED Yorkshire & Humber
We are an informal and friendly team with a common interest in regeneration and economic development within the Yorkshire and Humber Region. Our geographical area covers North, East, South and West Yorkshire plus North and North East Lincolnshire; however we also welcome colleagues from all parts of the country to attend our meetings.
We have a programme of activities and events which are open to all members of IED. We also welcome non-members who would like to know more about our branch and what we do, or have a particular interest in one of our event topics or seminars.
Our aims for the year ahead are to develop a programme of regular, well attended events that meets the needs of local members and to increase the number of members joining the branch. Members of the IED in the Midlands are invited to a joint event with the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce "Executive Club" of leading business owners and directors.
In the relaxed social setting of Malmaison in Birmingham in the early evening of Thursday 27th October join guest speaker Professor David Bailey, from Coventry University, known for his insight on local economic development and reporting of the motor industry in the region, and an invited audience of business men and women.

17 May 2011 - High Speed Rail
Tuesday 17th May 10am Venue: Birmingham Chamber of Commerce The Government has now opened a major public consultation on the proposed High Speed Rail link between London and the Midlands. This project will slash rail journey times but will require major investment and upheaval. It is a controversial issue for businesses and individuals alike. Through this event Midlands IED members can join the consultation process, and the Department of Transport will provide a speaker for our diverse group of over 200 senior and experienced practitioners in the fields of planning, regeneration and development.

17 May 2011 - High Speed Rail Link
This is a major opportunity for IED members to be involved directly in the official consultation exercise over the proposals to extend High Speed Rail from London to the Midlands as part of a future national network. The Department of Transport has kindly arranged on behalf of our branch for their high speed rail strategy adviser Jonathan Mitchell to make a presentation in Birmingham, and for a DFT high speed rail team representative to answer questions. 20 Apr 2011 - Social Enterprise in 2011: The Big Opportunity?
Wednesday 20th April 10am Moat House Leisure & Neighbourhood Centre, Winston Avenue, Coventry CV2 1EA This is the first of two events to be held in the Midlands for IED members in 2011. Kevin Maton, Network Director of Social Enterprise West Midlands will make a presentation on the development of social enterprises in the midlands and the key funding and operational issues they will face in the future. The event will take place at the Moat House Neighbourhood Centre, Coventry (which has ample free car parking). The centre is itself a social enterprise, and is home to many successful business ventures that serve their local community. The event will be of interest to all members who want to discuss or clarify the meaning of what coalition government leaders have called the "big society" the role of social enterprise in economic development. The meeting constitutes vital continuing professional development for members, and is a great networking opportunity to meet other practitioners and colleagues. 20 May 2010 - Regeneration through Education in Oldham
The Event will be looking at the impact of obtaining university status in Oldham since 2005. The University Campus Oldham is now a key part of the Council’s regeneration strategy and the Campus has already made a considerable impact on the Borough, putting education at the heart of its renewal plans. The topic areas include: the University Campus contribution to regeneration; an explanation of why and how the Campus was developed; the reason for choosing that particular model and how it was successfully implemented. The presentations will also include an overview of the journey that followed and how the Campus has gone from strength to strength, far exceeding the original expectations for student numbers.
