Michael joined One NorthEast in July 2009. In this role, he coordinates research into employment and skills that informs the strategic policy direction both of One NorthEast and its regional delivery partners.
Between 2006 and 2009 Michael was a Research Fellow at the influential think tank the Institute for Public Policy Research (ippr). While at the ippr, he published widely on the role of regional economic policy, recent regional economic performance, labour market participation and the structure of savings incentives in the UK. He has substantial experience of designing and implementing a variety of research methodologies, both quantitative and qualitative.
Michael has also previously worked as an economic development practitioner for a County Council and an Urban Regeneration Company.
Michael has been a Director of the Institute since 2006. An economist by training, he is a keen advocate of economic development and believes that the Institute has a valuable role to play in enhancing its professional standing. He is also a Fellow of the RSA. Away from work he has a keen interest in current affairs, DIY and sport.
