Mike has worked full time professionally in Economic Development, in the North East of England for 25 years including work at every level and activity. His main time was spent for approaching 20 years at South Tyneside Council where he received much external recognition and several awards for his work in physical regeneration , in business development projects and in customer care.
He has been a Member of IED since 1991, and has supported most IED Annual Conferences since.
Mike helped establish the North East IED Branch in 1995, then as Marketing Officer, and since remains active in the Branch today.
Mike was elected a Director of IED Council for five successive years till October 2006 – he attended almost all meetings and completed significant work in several areas both Nationally and with the Branch –, White Paper on “Planning” proposals , IED Website & PR proposals , several Journal Articles and book reviews, and he both drafted and actioned Marketing aspects of the IED Business Plan.
Again back on Council and as our Honorary Secretary from October 2008, Mike aims to continue to promote the development of the Institution with and for its Members.
When not involved with IED or other consultancy or his caring responsibilities, he spends the rest of his time between active lives on Tyneside and the Lake District - and he says he plays the guitar! Indeed he appears playing on the official Lindisfarne Tribute CD so can't be all bad!
